We are pleased to share the Detailed Design Document (DDD) for the Critical Virtual Exchange in Artificial Intelligence (CVEinAI) course, now available on Zenodo.
What is the Detailed Design Document?
The Detailed Design Document (DDD) is the instructional design blueprint of the CVEinAI course. It sets out the pedagogical foundations, unit structures, and student experience design, offering a transparent guide for how the course has been developed. The Document can thus be used to explain to any interested teachers how to adapt the CVEinAI Model for use in other Higher Educational settings. The DDD will include instructional design guidelines for building modules to be adapted to the CVEinAI course, as well as session plans used for the online facilitated discussions among students.
What’s inside?
The DDD provides:
- An introduction to Critical Virtual Exchange (CVE) and its role in education.
- A detailed structure of the CVEinAI course.
- The unit development process and design workflow.
- A description of the student experience, including how to manage connectivity challenges.
- Step-by-step guidance on accessibility considerations, tools for initial individual engagement, suggested activity flows
- Detailed outlines of course units, including: unit introductions and narratives, use of short video/audio materials, the three learning phases (individual, synchronous, and follow-up activities), resources and collaborative project work
Why is this important?
This publication is a practical resource for educators and instructional designers who wish to:
- Explore a Critical approach to Virtual Exchange and how Virtual Exchange can be embedded into courses on emerging fields such as AI.
- Understand how to balance synchronous and asynchronous learning in cross-regional contexts.
- Gain insights into accessibility strategies and low-bandwidth solutions.
- Adapt the CVEinAI model for use in other higher education settings.
